The owner of Phantom paintball markers, Mike Casady told me this story. It took place in the early 80s. The beginning of paintball started when 3 guys Bob Gurnsey, Hayes Noel, and Charles Gaines used Paintball markers that were used to mark trees and livestock. They had an argument about who was the best at survival, the city folk, or the country folk. There was a total of 6 players, 3 country folk and 3 city guys, as the story goes they played on over 100 acres. It came down to 2 players, one of the city guys and one of the country guys. The city guy’s gun had jammed so he stayed hidden most of the game’s hours had gone by when the country guy came walking across the city guy’s path. The city guy jumps out from behind a tree and yells surrender or die. And the surrender-or-die rule was born, luckily the country guy surrendered but the city guy only won because he hid the entire game. So, the argument stands, who would survive the country folk or the city guys?
